Government funding for 3yr olds    Free places available

The term after your child reaches 3yrs old, the government will pay for your child's place at preschool, if your child is not already attending a nursery class. At present we can claim for up to 12.5 hours for your child for free, hopefully this will rise to 15 hrs per week in the near future.

Free places for 2yr olds

In some cases we can provide 3 sessions free of charge to 2yr olds. Currently this is available to families who are awarded the child element of family tax credit and who have certain post codes.

 Key groups

At Shawe Hall Pre school Playgroup, we operate a key group system. All our staff have their own group to observe, assess and liaise with the parents of the parents of the children in their key group. It has been a success to this system, as we as a team can monitor your child's progress, picking up quickly on any next steps in your precious child's development, helping them gain skills and knowledge in the areas of learning. Each key group leader keeps a file on your little one, filled with photos, work examples, observations and next step ideas, for you to take with you when your child leaves to go to school. We evaluate behaviour and assessments to help us plan activities with your child in mind, extending activities to further educate, and giving support and help where needed. We issue a transfer record for your child's nursery teacher and for you, to see how your clever child has gained skills and learned many new and exciting things!

Admissions / Settling in at Shawe Hall

The most important first stage at Shawe Hall Pre School Playgroup, is that you and your child are happy and ready to stay, and have fun. We feel it is very important to get the balance right for both parents and children. It is such a massive step to leave your precious bundle with someone else, we realise the need to get to know us and know about what we offer. We encourage a couple of half hour visits, meeting staff, getting acquainted with the children, surroundings and resources. A start date will be determined by manager and parent/carer and the next step is for your child to stay for an hour on their own.  As each child is unique, this may alter from child to child, this is just a guideline.
We welcome every child to join in the fun at Shawe Hall. We liaise with outer agencies to gain help and advice for children with english as a second language, unique special needs, every one is welcome.

Policies and Procedures

We have an extensive policies and procedures file for parents to read that all staff are kept up to date with, and all abide by, for example - Behaviour policy, Safeguarding Children Policy, Special Needs SENCO Policy, Health and Safety, Security...  The full policies booklet is available to read upon visit to see us at Shawe Hall Pre school.

Snack time and relaxation

What with all the excitement of exploring, creating, socialising and playing, our children (and staff!!) deserve a well earned relax! We spare a couple of minutes each session, to have a sit down and relax to peaceful music, letting our muscles have a rest and getting ready for our snack to give us some energy back!
We enjoy a keeping healthy and we are currently gaining a 'Healthy Setting Award' - one of our staff members is our healthy setting co-ordinator, completing training to ensuring we eat healthily, use our resources and outdoor space to the best of our abilities, join in physical activities, involve parents in healthy lifestyle choices and have rotating menus to keep us healthy at our snack time at Shawe Hall. At snack time it is a great time for the children to socialise with peers, as we all sit together, enjoying healthy fruit, raisins, crackers, biscuits, bread sticks, carrots, cucumber, toast, pitta bread, houmous, naan bread, etc. We love to experiment with food, trying new tastes, especially if we are celebrating a birthday, Chinese new year, pancake day, Easter and many other exciting special days and holidays. We of course take food allergies/religious preferences into consideration, liaising with parents to eliminate foods that may cause allergic reactions, e.g peanut / dairy etc or foods that parents do not want their child to eat on own belief's and religious grounds.

Security

At Shawe Hall Pre School Playgroup, your child's safety is paramount. We recommend meeting any family members, friends who may pick up your child from preschool, even bringing in a photo to show staff family members. A member of staff must always be told when someone different is picking your child up, the information given to staff will be entered into our collections book, along with parents signature and phone number of the adult collecting your little one. A pass word will be given to a member of staff by parents, this is unique to you, picked by you and will be asked of family members / friends / anyone else who will pick up your child. The main door is secured 15 minutes in to the session, and a doorbell is available for any late comers. Visitors must sign the visitors book, in and out. The main door is secure at all times, with a staff member welcoming at the door at beginning and end of sessions.
